Open Source
The use of Open Source software solutions is crucial in this proposal, as it would allow us to select, adapt and reuse software components to design a tailored solution for this educational community, addressing the needs of their main agents: teachers, students and parents.
Today, sites like Eduforge and Schoolforge host an important number of software projects aimed to use FLOSS (Free open source software) in educational contexts. New concepts like desktop Web servers, Web OS, which can also serve as frameworks to launch applications and easily integrate other FLOSS learning resources and services are a promising and flexible environment to develop rich cloud services for school systems.
Our project is based on open source software. We have adapted some them to our needs, and some, we have created (visit our software section for downloads) and offer them with GPL license.
This project is based on the following main software packages:
- Debian O.S.
- Xen cloud platform
- Apache web server
- EyeOS 1.9. Cloud computing O.S.
- OpenMeetings. Multiconferencing service
- SQLite SQL database engine
- Clam AV. Server side antivirus
